When I moved to Los Angeles from the new New York City about two and a half years ago, I took the opportunity to draw up a washing list of things to get around to do.

One item I've been putting out for many years: buying a tenant insurance Now I pay $11.91 months to cover and finally calm of the mind.

I'll hear enough horror stories over the years knowing it's stupid and scary, mistakes to cross out on tenant insurance. Also, according to the insurance comparison site, intelligent policy only 40% of American tenants have it.

If you live for yourself, for example, not with your parents or campus colleges – you may want to insure your insurance. The good news is that it is dirty cheap, most people pay between $15 and $20 months for the protection of smart policies.

In general, insurance costs are based on your location and the coverage you receive. Insurance is more expensive in the state where there is a risk of severe weather – Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Alabama to the top list with annual premiums between $242 and $262, according to intelligent policies.

To be clear, the landlord usually covers the cost of any damage to the building (if you live in the apartment). In the event of a disaster related to the weather, as well as fire, leakage, or destruction in. Insurance covers the internal property, including electronics, furniture, clothes and accessories, and then your belongings will be covered that they are in a car house or hotel room-everything you own is protected under tenant insurance.

And while the fire and destruction (hopefully) Not a regular fare, if and when they happen, they can take you in deep financial destruction if you are not guaranteed.

Our business travelers have the best meaning:  "The insurance is a lot like an umbrella operation with you all the time: most of the time it feels burdensome, but the child, you're glad to have it when raining comes. " Enough to say that I am happy to fork more than less. $15 months in case

When I buy my insurance back in 2016, I go directly to the website of the farm state, but use the site like a smart policy to compare rates from different insurance companies to help you find the lowest.

The process for me is quite simple. I entered the name of the Social Security number (optional) The number of shared rooms I live with (two) and a number of personal property protections that I want (I do not own expensive clothing or jewelry, and I bought a policy for my belongings only. So I chose the lowest coverage option at $18,500)

I also checked off whether my apartment has specific security measures such as lock Bolt, fire extinguisher, sprinkler system, alarm system and smoke alarms because I have many of these, it translates into $58  "discount " annually.

I received a quote for a premium of $17.25 months, or $207 years, with $500 deductions. Such prices also include $100,000 of personal liability protection, meaning that I would have coverage if someone injured in my apartment.

In more than two years since my first purchase, my premium has fallen and now. $11.91 months may be because I bought a car insurance through the same provider at one point and saved in the  "bundle ". I do not have car insurance through the farm state, but my insurance premiums remain low.

However, my policy does not include an earthquake insurance, where I have to register and pay a separate payment. Fortunately, I grew up in California and knew that the earthquake of the house size destroyed was very difficult, so I still stopped in that for now (come back to me when  "Big one ").
